When Your Body Wants Something...
It Will Tell You

Here's an interesting story for you relating to what your body really needs. In preparation for an intestinal cleanse I was going to do, I ordered some products.

One was a source of organic electrolytes. These consisted of plant based sources of sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, magnesium and others. The product came in powdered form and all you had to do was take a spoonful, add it to a glass of water, let it dissolve some then drink it down.

All of these electrolyte sources were dehydrated and some of them took a while to completely dissolve so when I'd finish the glass there would be a little pile of small grains of the product left at the bottom of the glass.

Well, circumstances forced me to hold off on the cleanse for a while. But I found I just couldn't stop drinking this electrolyte product.

CravingIn fact, the first thing that would pop into my head when I'd wake up in the morning was, "Oh… I've just GOT TO have a glass of those electrolytes." So I'd get up and immediately have a glass full of the stuff.

I found myself really craving it. And when I'd finish the glass and a little pile of those grains of the product would still be on the bottom of the glass, I'd find myself scooping them up with a baby spoon, chewing them into a paste and swallowing them down.

I'd even use my finger to scoop out every last drop of these electrolytes. I felt like a drug addict I wanted them so badly!

It seemed over the course of a couple of weeks that the more time that went by with me taking 3 glasses a day of this stuff, the more I craved it. It was very obvious.

Long story short, I finished off both containers of these electrolytes in no time… even though I never started up on the cleanse during that time period. This was a glaring sign for me. That my body really wanted and needed these electrolytes. And of course, one of them was sodium. Organic sodium.

So after this issue of "Salt Or No Salt" bugging me for some time, I finally found a solution that satisfied me. As a result, I have been trying to completely eliminate all sodium chloride from my diet and making sure I have organic sources instead. However, I say "trying" because there is sodium chloride in just about EVERYTHING.

However, I found that my taste buds really haven't missed the salt. And the natural flavor of the food I eat has really become apparent. But at a party recently I got a handful of corn chips and ate one after having not had any salt for a while. My immediate, and verbal, reaction was, "Wow, this is really salty!" What was funny was that a couple of people standing next to me looked at me like I had just sprouted purple horns or something.

Ah, yes. Such is life when you are trying to follow a healthy diet in the real world!

Yours in health,

- Andy
