Don't Worry... It's All In Your Head

As you can probably tell by now, I get pretty frustrated when I see how the medical field continues to chase after symptoms rather than investigating the causes and, consequently, treating people with drugs that usually do little more than mask those symptoms.

But there is one area of “health care” that upsets me more than all the others.  That’s the dental field and their use of mercury filled amalgams during the era when I was a kid growing up.  Let’s look at this assault on the health of millions of people worldwide.

First, what are amalgams?  Amalgams, for the purpose of this discussion, are defined as the dark, silver colored fillings you see in people’s mouths.  Perhaps you even have them in your mouth.  But silver really isn’t an appropriate name for these fillings when you discover their true composition.

These amalgams contain approximately 1% zinc, 14% tin, 14% silver and, check this out, 50% mercury!  That’s right; 50% of that silver filling in the back of your mouth is mercury, a deadly poison.

Not only that but think about it; you have a source of deadly poison just inches from your brain.  If that isn’t enough, it turns out that the mercury isn’t the only thing that is poisonous to your body.  The zinc, tin and silver are also poisonous.

Now, when I first started researching the issue of mercury amalgams years ago, I took the opportunity to ask several dentists if they thought the mercury was unhealthy.  I had already studied the issue in depth and at that point was only interested in hearing how the dentists would handle my question.

And I got responses you might expect.  “Oh, don’t worry.  There has never been any scientific evidence that amalgams are unhealthy”.  Or, “No, there is only a tiny amount of mercury in the amalgam.  And plus, the amalgam composition is totally stable.”

Everybody I asked, the owners of the dental practice, the individuals who cleaned my teeth, the receptionists, everyone gave me the same rote answers.

In fact, here's a direct quote from a dentist that I found on the web.

"Silver fillings are perfectly safe, and there is not ANY reputable research by any reputable organization that has shown that the mercury from the fillings causes ANY harm.  PERIOD.  All that misinformation is simply that - misinformation.  ‘Nuff  said."

And then this dentist goes on to say that one of the situations where they use mercury amalgams is when patients grind their teeth and don't use a night guard. Unbelievable. UNBELIEVABLE!!!

By now you know enough about me that I don’t take anyone’s word for anything.  So let’s get into the nitty gritty of mercury amalgams.  But make sure you have your seat belt on because you may be shocked by what you hear.

Did you know that:

  • The five metals that make up the amalgam react with each other and form 16 more corrosive compounds.  All these additional compounds are poisonous too.

  • Contrary to what your dentist tells you, the mercury does not stay within the filling.  The chemical product that is formed by the 5 metals is chemically reactive. To prove this, a mercury vapor meter placed over a filling can detect toxic amounts of mercury vapor within 10 seconds.

  • Although mercury is released from the filling when sitting undisturbed in the mouth, the simple act of chewing has been shown to release more mercury.  In fact, chewing has been shown to increase the release of mercury vapor for more than an hour after one has stopped eating.

  • Even hot beverages or hot food has been shown to increase the amount of mercury vapor released from the filling.

  • An electrical charge can be created between two different amalgams in the mouth.  Or between one amalgam and braces or a crown.  This electrical charge releases additional mercury into the mouth.
